St. Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort, is our Patron Saint and the Founder of the congregation, Montfort Brothers of St.Gabriel who are at the helm of affairs at Montfort School, Manjampatty, Manapparai. Born on 31stJanuary, 1673, in a small town of Montfort in France, Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort exhibited an extraordinary love for the poor even from his childhood days. He developed a great devotion to the Blessed Virgin. He became a priest and worked ceaselessly for God and his people. He taught the poor and championed their cause. His desire to be one with them made him drop his surname Grignion and be called simply as Louis Marie of Montfort.

A great scholar and powerful speaker, Louis Marie de Montfort authored many spiritual works. His capacity to paint and carve, along with his poetic skills made him a spiritual 'Leonardo da vinci'. He never bothered about the consequences of telling the 'truth', and doing what was right before the sight of God. He was victimized by the world for his honesty and conviction. As a result he died at an early age of 43 in 1716 on 28th April. He was acclaimed a 'Saint' by the people and the Church authorities. An undaunted champion of the poor, and an ardent preacher, he founded three religious congregations. One such organization is Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel, committed to walk in his footsteps.

Montfort Brothers Vision Of Education

Three Montfort Brothers from France first landed at Pondicherry in 1903 at the invitation of the Archbishop of Pondicherry and started teaching at the Petit Seminaire School. One of them, Bro. John Baptist, started the St. Jospeh's Industrial school, the first Gabrielite institution in India at Tindivanam in 1904. At present there are about 556 Religious Brothers in India and they administer about 72 Institutions in different parts of the country. Apart from academic schools and colleges, they also run schools for the Deaf and Blind, Technical Institutes, Boys Homes and Social Service Centres.

The Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel seek God experience for themselves and for the people of God through their Apostolate of Love. The Educational Apostolate is a ministry for which they have been called and sent forth after the special charism of St. Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort following the Gospel values. Their primary option is to serve the economically backward class. In their apostolic endeavour, their top priority and special obligation shall be towards the poor and the needy. St. Montfort believed that education does not consist of academic excellence alone. So he gave the stress on discipline, character - moulding and personality development. In short, Montfort helps the students to strive for more in their attempt to explore the world around them, to understand and adopt themselves to its complexity, appreciate its grandeur, and enjoy its Beauty and Truth and thereby adore THE CREATOR
